Rotary 3D Printer

A 3D printer that implements two polar axes, instead of the traditional cartesian coordinate system that uses X and Y axes.

Why dual polar axes?

The two polar axes ensure a simple yet efficient design as there is no need for belts, pulleys, bearings, and linear bearings for the X and Y axes; all of these parts are replaced by 3D-printable gearheads that create the σ and τ axes. Thus, I was able to design a fully 3D printed mechanism for the axes of the 3D printer.

How I built it?

It took me 3 years (2014-2017) to perfect the design and the code. The CAD model was created in Autodesk Fusion 360, designed to be 3D printed by almost any 3D printer.
